In 2003, the community read “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and author and Harper Lee scholar Claudia Durst Johnson visited Mid-Missouri as part of that year’s One Read program. She recently shared with us these generous words about her time here:
I must say that, out of the many lectures I have given across the country, this experience was the best organized and so one of the most effective programs I have come across. The technical assistance was the best, and the choice of a leader for the question and answer period was an excellent one. The audience had obviously been encouraged to be well prepared with thought-provoking questions. As I recall, we continued well beyond the scheduled time for closure. I look forward to returning to Columbia one of these days!
In honor of our 10th anniversary, we’ll be featuring the words of authors and speakers from past years’ programs. Praise for the program is also praise for our community members – after all, your participation and support is what makes this program great!
