"The only outing my brother and sister and I have taken together as adults was to a circus in Macon, MO. It was tiny and my sister, who was about to ship off for the Air Force, got called down to perform with the clowns. Hilarious!"

"I've never seen a live circus, only circus movies. But the mood set in opening pages of this book was so rich and absorbing that I recommended it for my book club for this month."

"I have just started the book but was drawn into it immediately. I have a background of working in a nursing home for many years as a Social Worker, and some of the characters in the nursing home brought back memories. It also reminded me of the lives people lived before they lost their independence, and often their sense of purpose. I am enjoying the book very much!"

"I'm going to pick up a copy of "Water for Elephants" this weekend. As far as a "Circus Memory," I have very few. Circuses have always seemed pretty scary to me. Treatment of animals a concern... But one of my all time favorite plays is "Elephant Man" by Bernard Pomerence. It's such a touching portrayal of someone who faced such atrocities, and yet reflected grace and integrity.Anyway, I'm looking forward to being a part of the book discussion group."
