Joey Kelley and family

Joey Kelly and family will demonstrate circus skills like wire walking, juggling, rola bola and diabolo and entertain you with plenty of clowning around. Kelly has a pretty amazing clowning pedigree; he is the grandson of world-renowned circus clown Emmett Kelly, who spent much of his childhood right here in Missouri. This performance will be part of the Ashland Fall Festival, so tell your friends to bring a lawn chair and be prepared to be amused by America's "First Family of Clowns." Museum, Baraboo, WI.

Joey Kelly and his “Clown Alley,” including baby lion Penny (OK, OK, maybe she’s actually a Pomeranian), will clown around, perform some sleight of hand and share one of their favorite books. Bring a sense of humor, be prepared to laugh and above all, have fun because, as Joey says, “Laughter is truly the best medicine!” Joey Kelly has a pretty amazing clowning pedigree; he is the grandson of world-renowned circus clown Emmett Kelly, who spent much of his childhood right here in Missouri. Joey will also perform at The Blue Note before “The Greatest Show on Earth,” in which his grandfather plays himself

The Greatest Show on Earth

Winner of two Academy Awards, including Best Picture, this 1952 film directed by Cecil B. DeMille, stars Betty Hutton and Charlton Heston and features Emmett Kelly in his famous sad-faced clown character. The movie portrays the dramatic lives of trapeze artists, a clown and an elephant trainer set against the backdrop of the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus. Emmett Kelly lived much of his childhood in Houston, Missouri and his grandson, Joey Kelly of St. Louis, is also a circus performer. Joey will perform prior to the movie. Our ringmaster for the evening will be KBIA's Darren Hellwege. Tickets are free and available in advance at The Blue Note and any DBRL facility. Cosponsored by The Blue Note and 89.5FM/KOPN.
