When I first heard that "To Kill a Mockingbird" was selected this year, I was a bit disappointed, feeling like most people had already read it. I had been hoping for something "fresh." Now that I've re-read the book, my outlook has changed 100%. The book truly was "fresh" for me, so many years after my first reading of it. Reading it at a much different point in my life and realizing how many details I actually had forgotten made me change my tune. I also have much more appreciation of the quality of the writing this time around. As it turns out, this is a WONDERFUL selection for a group read!

I'm 13 and in Mrs. Steffans 8th grade class and I have had this book for a couple years and never thought to pick it up. Then we started reading it in her class and I couldn't put it down. In the last 2 weeks I have read it 2 times. It really is a good book--no book can top this. Everyone should read it.

What a treat to re-read this book, which I had not done for decades. I had forgotten how droll Scout's commentary was and found myself laughing out loud. Of course, the more compelling parts are just as urgent as when the book was first released.

I think this is a wonderful idea! It regenerates the interest in reading a book and helps bring people together in a world of computer isolation.

The book is read by eighth grade students every year in Mrs. Steffens' classes. She forced me to read it a couple of years ago. Great novel.
