Boone Regional Library, in conjunction with several other community
and business partners, is proud to present One Read--a
community-wide reading program. Modeled
after Chicago’s successful "One Book, One Chicago" project,
this comprehensive program involves cities, counties, media, schools
and businesses in encouraging adults of all ages to read one book and
then talk and participate in thought-provoking discussion and entertaining
activities.
The book
is Plainsong, by Kent Haruf and was voted
on by the public in February and announced in Boone and Callaway Counties
(the DBRL region) on July 25.
Citizens
will have the opportunity to sign up for the One Read program anytime
during the program, which runs through November, at any of the DBRL
libraries in Ashland, Columbia, Fulton, on our bookmobile or on this
Web site. In September and October, the libraries and task force members
will host several programs and events highlighting different aspects
of the book. The program will culminate with a visit from the author,
Kent Haruf, on November 16, which will include a free public appearance
in Columbia and Fulton as well as a $25-a-plate dinner with the author
at the Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia.
